LSU Museum of Art wins 2025 Southeastern Museums Conference (SEMC) Publication Competition Awards

Baton Rouge, Louisiana — The LSU Museum of Art is pleased to announce it is a recipient of two 2025 Southeastern Museums Conference Publication Awards. The museum received a Second Place Award in the Magazines & Newsletters Category for its Art Talk newsletter and a Third Place Award in the Campaign Category for its Geaux See Art – Museum Geauxer Campaign. Both projects were designed by LSU Museum of Art Marketing and Communications Specialist Sarah Amacker. The SEMC Publication Design Competition showcases the best in our profession and provides benchmarks for regional publication efforts in southeastern museums.

The Art Talk newsletter, printed quarterly, showcases current and upcoming exhibitions, programs, community initiatives, and other museum announcements. It is mailed to museum members and also available for free to the public when they visit the museum.

The Geaux See Art – Museum Geauxer Campaign was created to promote the LSU Museum of Art by embracing the university’s iconic “Geaux” branding. The campaign features a custom graphic of a tiger on a pedestal—symbolizing both the LSU mascot and the museum’s commitment to the arts. Branded items such as paintbrush pens, tailgate T-shirts, Museum Geauxer apparel, tiger stickers, magnets, coffee mugs, and more were developed to build school spirit and engage visitors. LSU students and museum employees participated in an on-site photoshoot to model the merchandise, with images used across social media and other marketing materials. This campaign connects LSU pride with the museum experience, encouraging the community to “Geaux See Art.”

Museum publications play a vital role in an institution’s educational mission, documenting exhibitions and collections through high-quality design and production and showcasing the depth of scholarship. This year’s SEMC competition drew a record-breaking number of applications from across the Southeast, with awards judged by a panel of museum professionals specializing in graphic design.

Award winners will be celebrated at the 2025 Annual Meeting Awards Luncheon on October 22 in Montgomery, Alabama, as well as in the Winter 2025 edition of INSIDE SEMC, the organization’s digital publication.
