Join us for a kid-sized program designed to support reading and art making for ages 0–6 with parent/caregivers. Enjoy a book and art project designed to make families comfortable exploring in a museum setting. This program continues the first Friday of each month. 

May's installment of Stories in Art begins in the Pennington Family Foundation Education Gallery on the fifth floor of the Shaw Center for the Arts, reading "The Hello, Goodbye Window." Children will visit the galleries after the story for an activity showing how artwork can become a window to a magical world. They will “jump” into the artist-created space and talk about what they see, feel, hear and smell. Then we'll head to the third floor to create our own magical artworks using pastels that will be placed within a “window” frame.

This 2006 Caldecott Award winning book, written by Norton Juster and illustrated by Chris Raschka explores Nanna and Poppy’s house through the eyes of a young girl. The kitchen window at Nanna and Poppy’s house is for one little girl a magic gateway. Everything important happens near it, through it, or beyond it.
