Education is vital to the mission of the LSU Museum of Art. We facilitate a lifelong interest and understanding of the visual arts for people of all ages and backgrounds. A range of educational programs explore the fine and decorative arts in the LSU Museum of Art permanent collection and animate visiting exhibitions. Museum staff and volunteer docents design programs using a breadth of learning approaches that will meet the diverse needs of K-12 students and university students. Professional staff members mentor university interns, giving them valuable, practical work experience in specialized museum activities. LSU Museum of Art balances its scholarly commitment to the Louisiana State University community with popular programs to serve those living in the greater Baton Rouge area.

The LSU Museum of Art's education programs connect Grade-Level Expectations (GLEs) to exhibitions. Students learn about original art through core subjects like English Language Arts, Math, and Social Studies. By applying skills learned in those subjects, students are better able to retain that information. LSU Museum of Art programs are an engaging educational opportunity for teachers and their students.
